Final Animation Blog Entry

1. In general, what did you like most about this class?

I enjoyed being able to work with a lot of equipment and programs that I hadn't been exposed to before this class. I never thought I'd come to love vector drawings so much, and even the simple things like having a larger screen or knowing what size tablet I'm comfortable with were very helpful.

2. What was your favorite project and why?

I liked the 2D and 3D shorts-- even if they were some of the more difficult projects, the freedom available for them compared to other projects made them very enjoyable.

3. In general, what did you like least about this class?

I kind of wish I'd had an opportunity to work a slower paced project with a deadline of several months, but that probably wouldn't have been very practical, so I can see why the deadlines were tight for this class.

4. What was your least favorite project and why?

Stop Motion and the Independent Study. Both of them ended up kind of half-assed, because I was focusing on other projects and assumed those would be easy...

5. What are your future plans upon graduation?

I really want to go to an art college! I still haven't picked where.

6. Do you feel that this class will help you achieve your future academic or career goals? Please give specific examples.

I do. This class has opened my eyes to a whole new set of techniques I can incorporate into my art, as well as a new set of careers I can look into. While I can't say I've remedied the problems I have with my art, this class has helped me in many ways in both art and time management.

7. What advice would you give to incoming students?

Don't spend a lot of time on Tumblr or Facebook in the beginning of the year or else you will get the book thrown at you...!

8. Additional comments:

Thank you for putting up with me and various obnoxious traits, everyone! I'll try to goof off less next year!

Another video this week-- This one is called "Kagemono"! It's about a hungry fox, a hungry mouse, and a hungry dog. (That's pretty much all I can say without spoilers.) The animation is very smooth and expressive, and the designs are, quite frankly, adorable. Plus, I love the style-- the textures of anything blend so well together, and the backgrounds are especially lovely. Plus, thinking of how she's only 5 years older than me makes me pretty encouraged in my own animating future!
What you have learned this week: It's a bit too hard for me to write positive things about myself, sometimes. :'D

What you want to learn in the future: How to get a job and save my resume from looking pathetically empty...

Something that frustrated you this week: I don't think I'm allowed to talk about stuff out of class here, am I? I guess I'm kinda frustrated that I don't know what to do now-- I can't bring myself to touch any old projects. ;;orz

Something that has made you happy this week: My friends, after hearing abut stuff that's happened, decided that they were going to become Power Rangers and use their ~special powers~ to save the day... it was pretty silly, but it really made me happy!

I watched Watership Down this week! I... well, when I heard the title I figured it'd be a live-action movie about a shipwreck. I was very surprised, but certainly not disappointed. It was excellently animated and directed, and I especially enjoyed the style used in the beginning minutes!

What you have learned this week: Pacing things out carefully does, in fact, work!

What you want to learn in the future: ... How to write autobiographies and resumes. <n>;; I'm gonna be in trouble if I don't fine out something to write...

Something that frustrated you this week: I keep on forgetting to bring my flash drive...!

Something that has made you happy this week: I finished my project early!

http://vimeo.com/39780846

The actual animation is gorgeous, but I love how they released a version with the rough animations along with it! You can really get a good grasp on how the different shots were made, and I really just like it a lot. ;u;

Friday, February 3, 2012

http://vimeo.com/9383918 This might not be as relevant as it could be, seeing as it's 2D and all, but my goodness this looks really good! I love how the elements that look like they'd just be background (like the pipe bit) are animated smoothly.
What you have learned this week: 3D is so boring oh my goodness

What you want to learn in the future: Why trying to make an object rotate on one axis will make all the others mess up for no good reason

Something that frustrated you this week: That lockdown making us miss the end of wall-e!

Something that has made you happy this week: Not having extra practices

Friday, January 20, 2012

What you have learned this week: That if a mesh is going to be duplicated 800 or so times it has better be really low poly.

Something that frustrated you this week: Discovering that slow save times =/= slow render times

Something that has made you happy this week: Not losing my tablet! =u=;;
